As the judge of the "Aladdin Divine Lamp Award", Xu Dongliang, the host of the International Lighting Design Center and director of the Institute of Light Environment Design at Peking University, gave an interview to Aladdin Lighting Network reporters, detailing his views on the "best engineering, product, and character" and selection criteria.
According to incomplete statistics, there are over 30 selection activities involving the lighting industry every year. Xu Dongliang believes that most of the selection activities are a reflection of the industry's activity. Selection is an activity of evaluation and selection, which plays a role in the professional development of the industry. The evaluation and scoring were conducted independently without interference, and the selection items were carefully divided. When selecting the "Best Project of the Year", Xu Dongliang stated that the evaluation elements for the best project are: firstly, the degree of implementation of lighting design, secondly, the degree of integration with other building components and the impact on the appearance of the carrier, as well as the possibility and convenience of maintenance. In fact, many projects have been done well, but there are still many unsatisfactory ones. He also emphasized that the work that contributes to lighting is mainly divided into three aspects: design and research, training and education, and media promotion and reporting. The three are interrelated and mutually reinforcing. The annual figures should include the three aspects mentioned above.
The goal of the "Aladdin Divine Lamp Award" is to become the "Oscar Award for the Lighting Industry". This selection event aims to promote the progress of industry products and engineering. Xu Dongliang revealed that it lies in the authority, fairness, and sustainability of the award. In the long run, the Oscar is the goal.
